Dr. Shafik Sachedina is the current Joint Chairman of Sussex Health Centre based in UK London. For close to two decades, Dr. Shafik has overseen the growth of the health center from a mere startup institution to a major health center in Sussex.
Dr. Shafik Sachedina was born in Dar-es-Salaam in the year 1950. Twenty-five years later, in 1975, he graduated from Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School, a university based in London.
Dr. Shafik began his career in 1992 as the director of Imara UK Limited, a position he held for five years. He left the company and joined The Horsham Clinic Limited as the director, a position he still holds. Apart from The Horsham Clinic Limited, Dr. Shafik Hussein is all the director at The Institute of Ismaili Studies and Islamic Publications Limited.
As a dental surgeon, Dr. Sachedina has practiced in numerous hospitals across the United Kingdom before setting up his own medical center. Apart from this, he has also offered countless voluntary services to hospitals such as Jamiti Institutions and Agha Khan.
Apart from being the Joint Manager of Sussex Health Care Centre, Dr. Sachedina also couples up as the Head of the Department of Jamati Institutions. Jamati Institution which is based in Aieglemont France falls under the Aga Khan group of companies. At this institution, Dr. Shafik is responsible for overseeing various programmes and activities designed for the Ismaili Community and the surrounding facilities which account for over 16 different areas where the Ismaili community centers exist.
Dr. Shafik Sachedina also oversees the coordination and prompt functioning of the Ismaili communities and the Aga Khan Development Network programmes. By doing so, Dr. Sachedina ensures that each institution is functioning properly and accordingly. This, in turn, ensures that the communities involved are well-catered for and services meant for them are offered on time.
Apart from being a member at the Ismaili Imamat, Dr. Sachedina holds numerous positions such as the member of the Aga Khan Development Network Committee, Chairman of FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International Co-ordinating Committee, as well as an active member and coordinator of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum (ILIF). As for voluntary work, Dr. Sachedina has served for two terms as the President of the Ismaili Council for the United Kingdom.
His vast experience in the field of medicine and directing has enabled him to juggle between the two roles easily. At the Sussex Health Care Centre, Dr. Shafik has also hired workers to work at the institution.
